Student Government Association
Be part of the dynamic team that represents HCC students on campus. The Student Government Association serves as the voice of the student body on issues concerning campus life and participates in shaping policies and student regulations. The SGA was created to enhance the quality of student life and the success of students through participation in social, cultural, educational and recreational opportunities.
You will have opportunities to grow your leadership skills, participate in campus and community service activities, plan fun campus-wide student events, and more. This is your chance to take the lead and make an impact!

SGA Positions
The SGA Team is comprised of elected positions of president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, public information officer and (4) senators and appointed positions on the Campus Program Board.
Elections will be held the week of April 21 for the 2025-26 school year. Please review the position descriptions below and submit your application by Friday, April 11.
As noted in the current SGA Constitution, at the time you submit an application, you must:
- Have at least 6 credits completed at HCC
- Have a minimum 2.5 GPA
- Be able to commit 2-4 hours/week to SGA
- Email a letter of recommendation from an HCC faculty or staff member to: hbbarnhart@hagerstowncc.edu
PLEASE NOTE: If 2+ students apply for the same officer position, or more than 4 students apply for the senator positions, students will campaign and be elected though an in-person voting process.
Duties:
President
- Meet with college administration to represent the voice of HCC students
- Maintain positive communication and understanding between all members of the College community
- Ensure all rights granted to students are being upheld
- Preside over monthly SGA/Club meetings
- Participate in HCC’s quarterly Shared Governance Council Meeting
- Represent students at HCC events/activities
- Participate on the Campus Program Board
- Commit at least 4 hours/week to SGA-related work
Vice-President
- Oversee the Campus Program Board and organize the college-wide student events
- Represent students at college events/activities
- Participate in HCC’s quarterly Student Affairs Shared Governance Committee
- Commit at least 4 hours/week to SGA-related work
- Fill in for President at meetings and events if needed
Secretary
- Take minutes at SGA meetings
- Send communication to team members about upcoming meetings/events
- Keep SGA information current on the HCC website
- Participate on the Campus Program Board
- Participate in HCC committees as schedule permits
- Commit at least 2 hours/week to SGA-related work
Treasurer
- Attend monthly SGA meetings
- Keep SGA budget information up-to-date, give report at monthly SGA meeting
- Approve all SGA purchases
- Participate on the Campus Program Board
- Participate in HCC committees as schedule permits
- Commit at least 2 hours/week to SGA-related work
Public Information Officer
- Be responsible for SGA marketing efforts
- Create and implement advertising campaigns for SGA events
- Create and monitor content for SGA social media accounts and webpage
- Participate on the Campus Program Board
- Commit at least 2 hours/week to SGA-related work
Senator
- Attend monthly SGA meetings
- Participate on the Campus Program Board
- Participate in HCC committees as schedule permits
- Participate in SGA events/activities as schedule permits
You can also apply to be on the SGA Program Board. Minimum earned credits and GPA requirements do not apply to Program Board members.

Program Board
The Program Board consists of the SGA officers, SGA senators, and members at large. The Program Board is responsible for programming events and activities for all segments of HCC's student population. Membership is open to all full- and part-time students. Members meet at least once per month. Students interested in planning activities are welcome to join. For more information, contact the student activities coordinator at 240-500-2225.

Meetings
- Monthly SGA/Club Update Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month, 3 - 4 p.m. in Student Center room 182, unless the college is closed.
- The SGA Program Board meets the first, second and fourth Tuesday of each month, 3 - 4 p.m. in the Student Center room 182, unless the college is closed.
