HCC recognizes outstanding adjunct faculty
Hagerstown Community College recently recognized seven of its outstanding adjunct faculty members for 2024, and named Tom Renner as the 2024 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty member of the year.
Renner, who has been an adjunct art instructor for the English and Humanities Division for 28 years, is a practicing artist who exhibits his work regionally and maintains an active presence in the regional art community. As such, he is able to mentor students who intend to develop as professional artists. He uses his knowledge of the professional landscape to inform curriculum development within the program.
The nomination for Renner stated, “Tom Renner is both a gifted teacher and artist. He works individually with each and every student, providing instruction and critique tailored to their specific needs. He is admired and loved by his students.”
Division recipients include Robin Banfe, who has served for 11 years in Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education; Daniel Burr, who has taught for 10 years in the Mathematics and Science Division; Karla Cunningham, who has taught in the Health Sciences Division for eight years; LuAnn Fisher, adjunct instructor in the Behavioral and Social Sciences/Business Division for 16 years; Jeff Hamilton, who has served in the Nursing Division, for three years; and Erin Walshkirkman, adjunct instructor in the Developmental Education and Adult Literacy Services Division for five years.
