HCC high jumper commits to Middle Tennessee State University

Hagerstown Community College student-athlete Gabby Cook recently committed to Middle Tennessee State University on a full-ride scholarship to join its NCAA Division I women’s track and field program as a high jump athlete this fall.

The 2022 Boonsboro High School graduate is a two-time NJCAA national champion and two-time All American in women’s high jump, holding the HCC indoor track and field record for high jump at 1.77 meters (5’ 9 ¾”) and the outdoor HCC track and field record for high jump at 1.74 meters (5’8 ½”). She is the first female student-athlete in HCC history to win two NJCAA D-I National Championships and is one of only three HJC/HCC athletes to become a two-time NJCAA national champion.

“I am thrilled to be attending Middle Tennessee State University,” Cook said. “This was the hardest decision I have made. I had so many amazing schools recruiting me and MTSU felt like the perfect match. I am excited to continue my track and field career along with my academics.”

Cook acknowledged HCC as a stepping stone to reaching this opportunity, and commented, “I am thankful for all of my coaches who supported me the whole way through. Especially Coach Reid for turning me into an athlete who is disciplined enough to get to these heights.”
