HCC announces multimillion-dollar campaign to benefit students
At the tribute celebration for Hagerstown Community College’s 75th anniversary held on Saturday, officials announced the launch of a multimillion-dollar campaign to support student scholarships.
The “75th Anniversary Campaign for HCC: A Gem for Generations” started with an initial goal of $7.5 million, but that amount has been exceeded during the quiet phase of the campaign. As of April 9, with the launch of the public phase of the campaign, more than $10 million have been raised and a new, enhanced goal has been established, to bring the total goal to $10.5 million.
The goal of the 75th anniversary campaign is to raise substantial scholarship dollars to ensure that every student who wants an education has access to HCC’s excellent educational programs and resources. The funds raised will allow for the creation of additional scholarships to HCC. These scholarships will help the most vulnerable students overcome barriers to educational attainment and become impactful, productive citizens—stimulating economic growth and enhancing the vitality of the region.
The HCC Foundation announced earlier this week the commitment of four major gifts, totaling $4.5 million. These donations, obtained during the quiet phase of the campaign, include three individual gifts of $1 million given for endowed student scholarships by the AC&T Co., Inc., the Jone L. Bowman Foundation, and an anonymous donor. An additional contribution of $1.5 million dollars came from the Washington County Commissioners as a contribution to assist in the development of the soon-to-be built D. M. Bowman Family Workforce Training Center that will be built on the Northern Avenue property recently purchased by HCC.
HCC would like to publicly recognize more than 100 additional donors who have made contributions to the campaign thus far, many of them supporting new endowed scholarships for HCC students. The list of donors is available at www.hagerstowncc.edu/advancement/75th-anniversary-campaign-donors.
Campaign leadership has been provided by Co-Chairs BJ Goetz and Jim Holzapfel; Honorary Chairs Blackie Bowen and Don Bowman; Campaign Executive Committee members Dave Abeles, Jim Brown, Julie Donat, Bill Fritts, Laura Herrera, Paula Lampton, Paul Mellott, Jim Pierne, Rick Toms, and John Williamson; HCC President Jim Klauber; HCC Senior Director of College Advancement Ashley Whaley; and the staff of the HCC Advancement Office.
The campaign is scheduled to conclude on December 31, 2022. For more information on how to make a donation or become involved in the campaign, visit www.hagerstowncc.edu/75thcampaign, or contact Ashley Whaley at 240-500-2348 or foundationscholarships@hagerstowncc.edu.
