Jim Brown Legacy Scholarship announced during HCC event
On Saturday, November 26, the Hagerstown Community College Athletic Booster’s hosted the Jim Brown Social, following the Jim Brown Classic Men’s Basketball Tournament. During the social event, the HCC Athletic Boosters revealed that a total of $26,300 had been raised to endow the Jim Brown Legacy Scholarship for future HCC athletes, with the first scholarship to be awarded in the Fall of 2023.
Current and former HCC athletes, friends, and colleagues were on hand to reminisce about the former HCC Men’s Basketball Head Coach and Athletic Director Jim Brown. Several HCC athletic alumni attended to share their experiences playing basketball with him, as well as his son, former Head Coach Barry Brown. Two current HCC Hawk athletes shared their experiences and the importance of the skills that they learn from their coach, Bernard Hopkins, as well as through bonds made with their teammates.
During the Jim Brown Classic Tournament, in which the Hawks played Monroe College, the Athletic Boosters awarded the following raffle prizes: two flat-screen TVs, a 50/50 raffle, a free three-credit HCC course of choice, and a chance to win $1,000 with a half-court shot.
The event was sponsored by Dynamark Atlantic Security Systems, Middletown Valley Bank, and Rocky’s New York Pizza.
