She was honored as part of their Philanthropy Day celebration during a virtual ceremony on November 15.

“Shirl is a dynamo, and can outwork everyone,” said Lisa Stewart, coordinator of HCC’s alumni relations. “She gives freely of hundreds of hours of her time to HCC, goes above and beyond to ensure the success of the Flower & Garden Show each year, and is the epitome of a distinguished volunteer.”

Grattan is a 1995 radiography graduate of Hagerstown Junior College (now HCC). She began volunteering with the HCC Alumni Association as a student. Since graduation, she has served as a member, co-chair, and chair of the HCC Alumni Association’s Flower & Garden Show fundraiser for more than 26 years.

The HCC Alumni Flower & Garden Show is a community event that brings more than 5,800 people to campus each year, to learn about plants and to purchase items from vendors.  The event has raised more than $750,000 through Grattan’s leadership, direction, and dedication.
