HCC students honored at 2023 All-Maryland Community College Academic Team awards ceremony
Hagerstown Community College graduates Caniah Mayo, of Hagerstown, and Alyssa Neff, of Waynesboro, Pa., were recently recognized at the 2023 All-Maryland Community College Academic Team awards ceremony, which took place at Turf Valley in Ellicott City. They were two of 22 students recognized at the state level and now qualify for nomination to the All-USA Community College Academic Team.
The All-Maryland Community College event is held each year to recognize exemplary academic and leadership achievement by community college students from across the state of Maryland.
Mayo received the All-Maryland Academic Second Team - Transfer Pathway award. She has served as the president of HCC’s Pi Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, and is a 2023 graduate of HCC. She plans to attend Mississippi State University.
Neff received the All-Maryland Academic First Team - Transfer Pathway award and the Coca Cola Scholarship Bronze Scholar. She has served as the chief officer of fundraising and public relations of Pi Theta and is a 2023 graduate of HCC. She will transfer to the Rochester Institute of Technology this fall, for photographic and imaging arts.
Each year, students are nominated by their college presidents and Phi Theta Kappa advisors. Students must meet a variety of criteria, including having a GPA of 3.5 or above and taking an active part in community service work through their school.
