HCC students awarded USM Regents Scholarships
Two recent graduates of Hagerstown Community College have been awarded prestigious scholarships by the University System of Maryland.
Brianna Simmons, of Hagerstown, has received the Kelly Regents Scholarship which provides in-state tuition and mandatory fees, with room and board (if applicable), for up to four semesters, as well $500 each semester for educational expenses. She earned an associate degree in sociology, with a 4.0 GPA, from HCC in May. She plans to attend Salisbury University at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown to continue her education in the field of social work.
Cayla Mayo, of Hagerstown, has received the Board of Regents Scholarship which provides up to $2500 per semester for four semesters. She earned an associate degree in education, with a 4.0 GPA, from HCC in May. She plans to attend Frostburg University at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown to continue her education in the field of early childhood and elementary education.
The Regents Scholars Program was established by the University System of Maryland Board of Regents to affirm its commitment to academic excellence and to enable students of exceptional ability to develop fully their intellectual and creative talents. In recognition of the contributions of outstanding transfer students, the Board of Regents has included these awards as part of the scholarship funds that may be awarded to Maryland community college students.
