HCC to offer Cannabis Dispensary Technician Program
The Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education Division at Hagerstown Community College is offering the first course of the new Cannabis Dispensary Technician Program this month. The two-part course will be offered August 17 to January 25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., every Thursday, on the HCC campus.
The program introduces participants to the history and legalities of cannabis, methods of cannabis consumption, therapeutic use, the endocannabinoid system, cannabinoids and terpenes, and medical conditions and client consults. Completing the program prepares individuals to work in a dispensary. Maryland State regulations require dispensary employees to be 21 years of age or older.
“With the legalization of recreational cannabis, the need for qualified, knowledgeable individuals to work in dispensaries is growing. We wanted to create a program to help fill that need,” said Maureen Iskra, program manager for business, certification, and licensure in the HCC Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education division.
