HCC to offer Blacksmithing Technology Courses
This March, the Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education Division at Hagerstown Community College is offering the first course of the new Blacksmithing Technology Program. The course will be offered March 18 to May 6 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., every Saturday.
The program introduces participants to basic blacksmithing techniques, use of blacksmithing tools, metallurgy, and techniques for forging, grinding, heat treating, and finishing projects. Completing the program prepares individuals to create custom metal or iron works, craft custom blades as a bladesmith, or provide horse shoeing as a farrier.
“Building on the strength of our welding program and facilities, our new blacksmith program will allow the community to step back to a time when shaping and welding metal was a true art form. The program will benefit the artisan community and those interested in one of the oldest careers in America,” said Jack Drooger, Program Manager for Trades in the HCC Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education department.
