HCC Meets New Federal Requirements for Truck Driver Training

Hagerstown Community College’s transportation safety program has officially enrolled in the Training Provider Registry (TPR), established by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA) to create a national system for training safer commercial truck drivers.

The TPR is part of the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations implemented by the FMCSA on February 7, 2022. Under the regulations, anyone receiving a commercial learner’s permit after that date must attend training at a TPR-registered program before he or she is permitted to test for a commercial driver’s license. The training requirement applies for individuals seeking CDL A and CDL B licenses, plus endorsements for passenger and hazmat.

HCC’s transportation safety program has provided training for CDL A and CDL B license seekers since 1995. The program has helped thousands of individuals obtain employment as commercial truck drivers and assisted local transportation companies with a new driver pool. In addition, the college added a diesel technician program in 2020, to meet employer needs.
