HCC donates masks and medical supplies

(March 27, 2020) – During the past week, Hagerstown Community College donated medical masks and other supplies to Washington County first responders, in response to the growing demand for personal protective equipment needed during the current state of emergency due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

More than 8,000 medical masks and 11,000 gloves, as well as gowns, shoe covers, wipes, a ventilator, and other items were donated from supplies the college had for use in its dental hygiene, nursing, and allied health programs.

“As the news spread that personal protective equipment and other supplies were in great demand, we realized we had an opportunity to help,” said HCC President Jim Klauber. “We gave an initial donation of 5,000 masks and then dug deeper to find additional supplies available through all of our medical programs.”

Due to the state of emergency, HCC began remote operations on March 18. Student break was extended for a second week, from March 16 to 20. All credit classes for the spring semester were converted to online, starting March 23 and through the end of the semester.
