HCC and Shepherd sign nursing transfer agreement
(October 6, 2020) –Hagerstown Community College and Shepherd University have signed a new 2+2 R.N.-B.S.N. agreement that will provide a seamless pathway for nursing students from HCC to earn their bachelor’s degree at Shepherd.
“Hagerstown Community College has been an outstanding academic partner, with many students choosing to take the important next step of obtaining their bachelor’s degree,” said Dr. Scott Beard, Shepherd provost. “This pathway for registered nurses will allow them to work in a magnet hospital setting by obtaining the B.S.N. As we’ve seen over the past year, we need nursing professionals more than ever. They are heroes on the front line of the pandemic and make a huge difference with their compassionate care.”
“We are honored to have this agreement with Shepherd University,” said Karen Hammond, HCC director of nursing. “It provides a seamless pathway for our nursing graduates to earn their B.S.N. degrees from a quality institution.”
“HCC already has several great transfer agreements in place with Shepherd and this adds to that list,” said Jim Klauber, HCC president. “Shepherd University is a valued transfer partner for our graduates.”
Under the agreement, HCC students who earn an associate of science in nursing, have a grade point average of 2.7 or better, and who have not matriculated at any other institution of higher education will be guaranteed transfer admission to Shepherd to earn a bachelor of science in nursing. HCC students will receive a 25 percent discount off of Shepherd’s out-of-state tuition rate and those with a 3.5 GPA can apply for Shepherd’s scholars’ program.
