Fletcher Incubator Pitch Contest Winners Announced
The second Idea Pitch Challenge at the David W. Fletcher Incubator + Labs at Hagerstown Community College was recently held, with 11 participants sharing ideas for a chance to win money, space in the incubator, and business support. Following a short pitch from each participant, a panel of 20 judges identified the top three winning ideas.
The Impact Award of $4,000 was given to Breyon Hopkins of NeverBored Games, for his concept to launch a gaming lounge and host local tournaments for competitive and enthusiast video gamers. In addition to the money, he will receive mentorship, a one-year dedicated desk membership in the Fletcher Incubator, and a one-year membership with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.
Daryl Staveness of ExciPlex received the $2,000 Job Creation Award. ExciPlex, a current tenant in the incubator, is developing a novel diagnostic technology using cutting-edge photochemical techniques that can rapidly quantify mycotoxins in any feed or grain sample.
An honorable mention was given to D.D. Treats, an organic dog treat solution created by eight and 13-year old siblings, Bella and Ra’Dae Bell. They received $1,000, as well as mentorship, a one-year membership in HCC’s Culinary Incubator, and a six-month membership in the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.
The David W. Fletcher Incubator + Labs was recently opened to offer workspace, business development, and other support services for local business owners, entrepreneurs, and independent workers, and to inspire the next generation of enterprising community leaders.
