RUN Program (New through Jan 2025)

HCC has partnered with the Washington County, MD United Way to provide Lyft rides to qualifying students in need of transportation assistance through the Rides United Unlimited (RUN) program. Rides must originate in Washington County, MD and HCC student riders can qualify for up to 2 rides per day at $27 each way. Riders do need to be ages 18+ but do not need to be Maryland residents.

This program is coordinated through Registration & Student Support, suite 110 of the Student Center. To participate, students can complete the online form at HCC RUN Form. Once the form is processed, the student will be sent a Lyft code via their student’s HCC email address. Each code is good for two $27 rides. Student must have access to the Lyft app and create an account to participate in the program. Students should allow 1-2 business day for processing online forms.

The ride must originate in Washington County, MD. If the amount of the ride exceeds $27, the student will be responsible for paying the remainder. Possible uses for the ride are listed on the form and include education, healthcare, employment, legal assistance, and more. Students may request additional codes by filling out the form each time.

Students can contact their Student Support or Cohort Advisor or CARE Team member for more information about the RUN program. Access to this program is anticipated through January, 2025.

Emergency Assistance

Students in good academic and conduct standing experiencing one-time, unexpected vehicle repair and who need help paying for the vehicle repair to get to campus for classes are encouraged to complete a Student Emergency Grant application, attaching a copy of the vehicle repair estimate. HCC’s Alumni Association may be able to provide vehicle repair assistance. Vehicles need to be titled in student’s names for consideration.

Online Courses As An Alternative

Students without a steady means of transportation to campus to participate in face to face classes are encouraged to enroll in online courses to ensure they are able to actively participate. Class attendance is required for college success. HCC’s Student Support Advisors are available to help students navigate class schedules while taking into consideration transportation challenges.
