HCC celebrates distinguished volunteers on National Philanthropy Day
Bill Fritts, of the Hagerstown Community College Foundation, and Belinda Stull, of the HCC Alumni Association, were named Distinguished Volunteers by the Western Maryland Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals on National Philanthropy Day (November 15). The HCC volunteers were recognized alongside 24 other volunteers from the region at a luncheon at the Arc of Frederick County.

HCC tribute raised more than $100,000 to benefit students
The net proceeds from the Hagerstown Community College Foundation’s 24th Annual Tribute, held in early April, total more than $100,000, to benefit HCC student scholarships. The event, which had 460 attendees, honored Andrew Serafini, with a theme of “The Possibilities are Endless.”

HCC receives donation to establish second Brooke’s House Scholarship
The Hagerstown Community College Foundation recently received an endowment for a second scholarship to benefit residents of Brooke’s House, a nonprofit organization in Hagerstown, that provides treatment and recovery services to help residents achieve their dreams of living drug-free, productive lives.

HCC Foundation Athletic Booster Leadership Committee establishes athletic scholarship
The Hagerstown Community College Foundation Athletic Booster Leadership Committee recently established the Hawk Athletic Boosters Scholarship with an endowment of $25,000. The scholarship will be available for student athletes as soon as fall of 2024.

HCC receives donation to establish Brooke’s House Career Opportunity Scholarship
The HCC Foundation recently received an endowment for the Brooke’s House Career Opportunity Scholarship. The scholarship, donated by Katharine and Kent Oliver, will support educational opportunities for residents of Brooke’s House, a nonprofit organization located in Hagerstown, that provides treatment and recovery services to help residents achieve their dreams of living drug-free, productive lives.

The HCC Foundation Athletic Booster Leadership Committee recently established the Hawk Athletic Boosters Scholarship with an endowment of $25,000. The scholarship will be available for student athletes as soon as fall of 2024.

Brethren Mutual Insurance Company Establishes Endowment Scholarship with Hagerstown Community College Foundation
Brethren Mutual Insurance Company recently donated $25,000 to the HCC Foundation to establish the Brethren Mutual Endowment Scholarship held in trust by the HCC Foundation, Inc. Interest from the gift is awarded annually to an HCC full-time student with at least a 3.0 GPA and enrolled in a business or marketing major.

New HCC scholarship honors former Professor Hugh Beall
Hagerstown Community College alumnus John E. (Ed) Sneckenberger recently endowed an HCC scholarship as a tribute to the unique and outstanding scholarly achievements of Professor Emeritus R. Hugh Beall. The R. Hugh Beall Academic Achievement Scholarship will be awarded to students each year who major in mathematics or engineering science. Recipients must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, as well as demonstrated financial need.

HCC receives donation to establish Wiley Scholarship
The HCC Foundation recently received a generous donation from Eddie Wiley to establish the Mrs. Gracie M. Wiley Memorial and SGM (Ret.) Eddie H. Wiley Scholarship. The scholarship has been developed to assist students who are residents of Washington County, Md., Franklin County, Pa., or Jefferson and Berkeley Counties, W.V.; have a 2.5 GPA or greater; and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to minorities and military personnel – active, retired, reserve, and other veterans.

HCC receives $25K scholarship donation
The HCC Foundation recently received a donation of $25,000 from Alfred Fiedler, Jr., in memory of his wife, Georgeann M. Fiedler, who worked as a nurse for 54 years. The money will be used to create the Georgeann M. Heidecker-Fiedler Scholarship that will be awarded each year to an eligible first-year nursing student from Washington County.

HCC announces multimillion-dollar campaign to benefit students
At the tribute celebration for Hagerstown Community College’s 75th anniversary held on Saturday, officials announced the launch of a multimillion-dollar campaign to support student scholarships. The “75th Anniversary Campaign for HCC: A Gem for Generations” started with an initial goal of $7.5 million, but that amount has been exceeded during the quiet phase of the campaign. As of April 9, with the launch of the public phase of the campaign, more than $10 million have been raised and a new, enhanced goal has been established, to bring the total goal to $10.5 million.

HCC receives $4.5 million in gifts
The HCC Foundation has announced the commitment of four major gifts, totaling $4.5 million, to be used to provide endowed scholarships for HCC students and to assist in the development of a new centralized location for workforce training programs on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

Rasmussen family creates HCC nursing scholarship
The Hagerstown Community College Foundation recently received a $27,000 donation from the children of Donna Lou (Stearns) Rasmussen, to create a scholarship in her memory. The Donna Rasmussen Nursing Scholarship has been established to assist students that are majoring in nursing and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to those with financial need.

HCC Foundation receives anonymous donation to assist women of color
The HCC Foundation recently received a $27,000 anonymous donation to establish the Equilibrium Scholarship for Minority Women. The endowed scholarship will be available each year to assist female students of color who are residents of Washington County, enrolled full-time, have a 2.5 GPA or greater, and have a demonstrated financial need.
