Profile
Current Projects:
I am a specialist in nineteenth century United States history with a research focus on the Civil War. My current project is a study of the central Ohio River Valley during the secession crisis.
I am also conducting research on the discrepancies between how community college students self-report their academic preparedness and their actual performance. Will the way in which they view their level of preparedness change after completing an undergraduate survey course in history?
Education and History:
B.A., History and Political Science, Grove City College, 1985
M.S., International Relations, Troy State University, 1992
M.A., History, University of Maryland Baltimore County, 2002
Ph.D., History, University of Tennessee, 2011
Interests:
When I'm not guiding undergraduates through the fascinating world of history, I enjoy spending time with my family, cheering for the Red Sox and Patriots, keeping the weeds in my front yard under control, and working on the proverbial "honey-do" list.
