Hagerstown Community College student Ray Wharton of Smithsburg was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Maryland Sheriffs’ Institute.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must be in the administration of justice program with an ambition of entering the law enforcement field, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and have sophomore status.
After graduating from HCC, Wharton plans to continue his education at Frostburg with a double major in criminal justice and psychology.
Washington County Sheriff Charles F. Mades presented the check to Wharton, along with HCC President Dr. Guy Altieri and Associate Professor David Yohman, coordinator of the administration of justice program.
