Hagerstown Community College held its 59th annual commencement on Saturday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m. in the Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center. HCC President Dr. Guy Altieri and members of the board of trustees presented 367 degrees and certificates before a crowd of more than 2,000.
Dr. Donna Rudy, HCC dean of student affairs, reports that 170 students received associate degrees in the transfer curricula, designed for students planning to continue their education at a four-year institution. The top choices of colleges for HCC graduates in the transfer program are Shippensburg University, Frostburg State University, Shepherd College, and Hood College. Other transfer colleges include the University of Maryland, Penn State University, Duke University, West Virginia University, and Shenandoah University.
Nursing was the most popular curricula for the two-year, career-oriented students with 39 graduates. In the transfer program, general studies and business administration were the largest concentrations.
Awards for academic achievement were presented at the Honors Convocation, held on May 18.
