The Continuing Education and Business Services Division at Hagerstown Community College is offering two food safety courses in April for food service providers.
The first course, “Food Safety Managers Certification,” will be offered on Tuesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning April 16 and ending April 23. Course topics will include proper methods of food handling and preparation, the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) concept of food safety, proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities, guidelines for working with regulatory agencies, and personal hygiene. Upon course completion, participants are awarded a nationally valid certificate as a certified professional food manager from the National Environmental Health Association. This course meets the requirements in those jurisdictions where manager certification is mandated. Materials fee includes course materials, exam, and certification. Cost is $86.
The second course, “TIPS Training,” will be held on Wed., April 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. TIPS is a skill-based training program designed to prevent intoxication, underage drinking, and drunk driving. Participants learn how to recognize potential alcohol-related problems and how to effectively intervene to prevent alcohol-related tragedies. Cost is $65.
