Renovation of the Waltersdorf Quad is now complete and includes new seating walls near the Classroom and Science Buildings, as well as free Wi-Fi access within the Quad itself. Students can use the paved path around the Quad to access buildings on campus or walk through the center of the Quad using access stairways near the Science Building and the Student Center.
The campus Quad also features the Waltersdorf-Henson Tribute area, which is located in the center of the Quad. The tribute area was a gift of the Community Foundation of Washington County and the Richard A. Henson Foundation, Inc. in recognition of the Waltersdorf-Henson Endowment Challenge Campaign. The Waltersdorf-Henson Challenge was held from June 2005 through December 2010 and raised over $10 million dollars to benefit HCC and 15 other non-profit organizations.
John Waltersdorf and Richard Henson were local philanthropists and community leaders. In addition, Waltersdorf was a longtime friend of Merle S. Elliott, a member and former chair of HCC’s Board of Trustees. Elliott has served on HCC’s Board since 1986.
HCC offered to be the home of the tribute site and several local and community organizations donated funds to create the tribute area.
Future improvements to the Quad include the addition of a solar charging station for laptops and cell phones.
