Hedge Apple Launch Party held Oct. 18

Hagerstown Community College will hold a launch party for the most recent publication of its literary arts magazine, the Hedge Apple, on Thurs., Oct. 18, beginning at 6 p.m., in the Student Center.

The reception will begin with prose and poetry readings by recent Hedge Apple contributors. A variety of workshops on fiction, poetry, and publishing will also be offered. Workshops include “Flash Fiction: A Short Story in 30 Minutes” with Herald-Mail editor Chris Copley; “First Impressions: Cover and Query Letters” with HCC English instructor Alicia Drumgoole; and “Thought Verbs—Silent but Deadly” with HCC graduate Amanda England. Light refreshments will be served.

This event is free and is open to the public. Local writers and artists are encouraged to attend. Advance registration is not required.

The Hedge Apple was founded in 1999 by Askold Skalsky, a former professor of English and foreign languages at HCC, now retired. The magazine is published once a year by the students and faculty of Hagerstown Community College and features poetry, short fiction, and artwork by HCC students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
