JLG sponsors girls engineering class at HCC
Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Tue, 07/03/2012 - 3:43pm
JLG Industries, Inc. recently sponsored a week-long engineering course at Hagerstown Community College for girls entering grades six through eight. With a gift of $2,310, JLG covered the tuition for the 14 girls who participated in the class, entitled “Girls Exploring Engineering.”
During the week, the girls were introduced to elements of civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineering. They participated in hands-on projects and heard from expert guest speakers. Four female engineers from JLG who visited the class are Joan LaSalle, senior chief engineer; April Tran, senior engineer; Cathy Martin, design engineer and HCC alumna; and Megan Schultz, design engineer.
“Girls Exploring Engineering” is offered each summer as part of HCC’s College for Kids program. For more information, visit www.hagerstowncc.edu/kids.
