An Evening of the Arts held April 28
Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Wed, 04/13/2011 - 10:21am
Hagerstown Community College will host “An Evening of the Arts” on Thurs., April 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the Student Center. The event will feature artwork and poetry by HCC students and will coincide with the opening reception for the annual Spring Student Art Show.
The opening reception for the Spring Student Art Show will feature a variety of different mediums including jewelry, sculpture, photography, painting, drawing, and graphic design work. Artwork will be on display throughout the evening via video screen as this year's exhibit is virtual and is available online at www.hagerstowncc.edu/student-life/student-art-show.
“An Evening of the Arts” will also feature a poetry slam contest. This contest is open to students, staff, faculty, and the public. Participants are asked to bring three pieces to read, which can include mature themes and content. Poets will begin reading their work at 6:30 p.m. and will continue until the final poem is read. At the end of the readings, two $25 prizes will be awarded: one for best poetry reading and one for best poetry slam. Poets who plan to participate are asked to arrive by 6 p.m.
This event is free and is sponsored by students in the HCC Art Club and the HCC English Club. Refreshments will be served. For more information, email jmlowe@hagerstowncc.edu.
