Dental pharmacology seminar offered through HCC

Hagerstown Community College’s Continuing Education and Community Services Division is offering a seminar, “Pharmacology Update for Dental Professionals: Drugs, Herbals, and Nutraceuticals,” on Fri., Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Elliott Center on HCC’s main campus.

This full-day course will provide up-to-date information about conventional drugs, herbal supplements, and nutraceuticals and their impact on dental health. Guest speaker will be Richard Wynn, PhD, a professor of Pharmacology at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore. Discussion topics will include the effectiveness of new medical and dental drugs; anesthesia reversal agent OraVerse; beneficial effects of common herbal supplements and antioxidants; nutraceutical remedies that benefit dental health; bisphosphonates and necrotic jaw; periodontal disease; CRP and risk of heart attacks; benefits of alcohol; effects of aspirin and Plavix on bleeding; and new reports on aspirin that affect dental practice.

Professional continuing education credits are available for Md. and W.Va. dental professionals.

Cost is $149.  Fee includes continental breakfast, continuing education credits (CEUs), handout materials, and a certificate of participation. When registering three or more participants from the same office at the same time, cost is $135.
