Snow Day Make-Up Plan

Dr. James Lyons, Maryland Secretary of Education, has notified the College that the four days lost to the recent snow storms must be made up. After discussion that included the Academic Council, the Faculty Assembly, and the Student Government Association, President Altieri has approved the recommendation to make up the days on the following dates:
 
Wednesday, May 5; Thursday, May 6; Friday, May 7; and Monday, May 10.
 
Faculty will be made aware of more specific details within the next two weeks and communicate that information to you.

Snow Day Make-Up Q&A

The Spring 2010 semester will be extended by 4 days to make up time lost during this month’s snow storms. The official date marking the end of the semester was supposed to be Tuesday, May 4. This schedule would have ensured 15 weeks of class meetings.  The dates for the make-up are Wednesday, May 5, Thursday, May 6, Friday, May 7 and Monday, May 10. 

Q: Must every class section meet on the days/dates set aside for make-up time?

A: Only 15 week classes are affected.  All 2nd 7.5 week sections, 1st , 2nd and 3rd 5 week sections, and 1st  and 2nd 10 week sections were not affected. 

Also, any classes which met between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, February 8, will not need to meet on Monday, May 10. 

When in doubt regarding your course section, please consult the Spring 2010 Master Schedule or your division chair/director.

Q: How can 1st 7.5 week classes make up the time?

A: Time is available on Thursday, March 4 (for classes that meet T or T/Th), Friday, March 5, Saturday, March 6, and Sunday, March 7.  A make-up class must be scheduled, and make-up plans need to be approved by a faculty member’s division chair/director.  No students should be required to meet on the HCC Campus during Spring Break.

Q: Will Spring Break be affected?

A: No, Spring Break will still be held as scheduled (March 8 - March 14) 

Q: Will the current final exam schedule be retained?

A: Yes, finals will run as scheduled. Your exam should be administered on the day and time on the HCC Web site. Click here to see the Final Exam Schedule.

Q: Will the graduation ceremony still be held on Sat., May 15th?

A: Yes, graduation will still be held Sat., May 15, at 9:30 a.m., in the ARCC.
