Submitted by Deborah M. Staley on Fri, 04/03/2009 - 8:40pm

Featuring J. Emmet Burke, PhD, JD
In certain circumstances, the responsibility of health care providers and mental health professionals extends from providing treatment to meeting legal and ethical obligations imposed by state law and regulation and by professional codes of conduct.
This seminar will examine current legal and ethical issues concerning consent to treatment, confidentiality and privilege, dangerousness, court ordered treatment, child and vulnerable adult abuse and responding to court orders for testimony and medical records. Material will be presented concerning the judicial system and health-related statutes in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia as well as relevant professional codes. Limiting licensing board exposure and civil liability will be discussed.
This is an excellent program for any professional working in healthcare, and is in part designed to help disciplines for which 3 hours of continuing education in ethics, law, professional conduct and/or risk management is a requirement to meet re-licensure mandates.
