New history courses being offered this fall

This fall, Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering a variety of history courses for students of all ages.
     
From Sept. 10 through Oct. 1, HCC instructor and local historian Jeff Driscoll will teach, “WWII Invasion of Sicily,” on Thursdays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. From Nov. 12 through Dec. 10, Driscoll will also teach a course entitled, “The Franco-Prussian War,” on Thursdays, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Both courses will be held in the Career Programs Building on HCC’s main campus.
     
Additional courses include “The Stuart Restoration and the ‘Glorious Revolution’ of 1688—England Establishes a Modern Government,” on Wednesdays, from 9:30 a.m. to noon; “The American Revolution of the West,” on Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to noon; “Viking Journeys to North American,” on Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 14, from 9:30 a.m. to noon; and “Builders and Heretics,” on Fridays, beginning Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon. All courses are offered at HCC’s Valley Mall Center.
     
Special one-day courses include “Viking Ships and Sailing Lore—Lecture I,” on Wed., Oct. 14; “The Saga of the Greenlanders—Lecture II,” on Wed., Nov. 11; and “Erik the Red’s Saga—Lecture III,” on Wed., Dec. 2. All one-day lectures are offered from 9:30 a.m. to noon at HCC’s Valley Mall Center.
