HCC students and staff hold food drive
Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Wed, 03/04/2009 - 5:17pm
Students and staff at Hagerstown Community College recently held a food drive for Food Resources, Inc., a local member of the Maryland Food Bank. Sponsored by the Student Government Association and HCC’s Children’s Learning Center (CLC), students, staff, and families with children who attend the CLC were encouraged to bring non-perishable items to various buildings on campus during the week of February 20 through February 27. During that time, more than three large barrels of food were collected.
“I wanted to do a food drive for Food Resources because I know how valuable their service is to the people of this community,” said Teresa Kitchen, director, Children’s Learning Center.
Food Resources, Inc., is non-profit organization that first opened its doors in 1987. Currently, it serves as a regional non-profit food warehouse from which other charitable organizations can obtain food and other items for their feeding programs. This year alone, Food Resources, Inc. will donate an estimated 1.4 million pounds of food to individuals and families located throughout Washington and Frederick counties in Maryland, and Franklin and Fulton counties in Pennsylvania.
