HCC offers courses on Maryland insurance licensing

This spring, Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering three courses on insurance licensing.
     
The first course, “Maryland Property and Casualty Insurance Licensing,” is offered on Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., from March 20 through May 8. This course includes 54 hours of live classroom instruction and 42 hours of self-study. Taught by HCC instructor Carol McClain, the course will discuss the basic principles of property and casual insurance, as well as Maryland regulations. Students are required to sign an affidavit that they completed the self-study hours before receiving a certificate of completion. Attendance is mandatory and students must attend all 54 hours of live classroom work in order to receive certificate of completion. Cost is $399.

The second course, “Maryland Life and Health Insurance Pre-Licensing,” is offered on Fridays, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:10 p.m., from May 15 through June 26. This 60-hour class incorporates 40 hours of classroom instruction and 20 hours of self-study and provides students with the knowledge needed to pass the Maryland State Insurance Exam, which is required to obtain a life and health insurance license. Discussion topics include the basics of life and health insurance, including insurance contracts, underwriting, contract terminology, estate planning, pre-need burial plans, individual and group plans, retirement plans, Medicare and Social Security benefits, long term health care insurance plans, Maryland insurance laws, income tax considerations, and more. Cots is $299.
     
The third class, “Maryland Title Producer Pre-Licensing Course,” is offered on Mondays, from 5:30 to 8:45 p.m., from June 1 through June 29. Provided by MODA Systems, Inc., this course prepares the attendee for the Maryland Licensing Examination needed to become a Maryland Title Producer. Discussion topics include the history of title insurance, a review of title policy, as well as state and federal laws. This course includes 16 hours of classroom instruction, as well as 14 hours of self-study. Cost is $300.
