U.S. Navy Country Current to perform Sept. 28 at HCC
Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Tue, 09/16/2008 - 12:00am
The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host the U.S. Navy Country Current as part of its annual Red, White and Blue Summer Concert Series, on Sun., Sept. 28, at 4 p.m., in HCC’s Alumni Amphitheater.
The Country Current is a seven-member country-bluegrass ensemble originally formed in 1973 under the leadership of banjo player Bill Emerson. Currently, the group is under the direction of banjo instrumentalist Chief Musician Keith M. Arneson. In support of Navy recruiting, the Country Current tours the United States each year and has performed alongside a host of country artists including Brooks and Dunn, Charlie Daniels, Vince Gill, Toby Keith, Alison Krauss, Boots Randolph, the Statler Brothers, and many others. The group also features an acoustic bluegrass quintet that is often featured at many of the nation’s prominent bluegrass festivals.
Co-sponsored by the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau, this concert is free and is open to the public. For more information, contact HCC Alumni Coordinator Lisa Stewart at 301-790-2800, ext. 346.
