HCC offers certification courses for pool operators

This fall, Hagerstown Community College’s Center for Continuing Education is offering two courses geared towards preparing students to become certified swimming pool operators.

The first Certified Pool Operator course is intended to prepare uncertified students to take and pass the State of Maryland Health Department Examination, which is now required by the state of Maryland for all practicing pool operators. Students are required to receive a passing grade of 75 percent or better. Upon completion of the course, student records will be submitted to receive certification as a public pool/spa operator. The course is offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tues., Sept. 9 and Wed., Sept. 10.

The second class offered is a renewal course and is intended for existing pool and spa operators that have already been certified. The Certified Pool Operator Update Course provides students with updated information as required by the Maryland Department of Health for the safe operation of public swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs. Topics include a review of the current policies and procedures, as well as updated changes to laws and responsibilities of pool/spa operators. The course is offered from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tues., Nov. 4.
