Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Wed, 05/28/2008 - 12:00am
Hagerstown Community College student Mindy Waltz was recently accepted to Johns Hopkins University. Waltz is a science major at HCC and has been attending college since 2005. She is well-known on campus for her dedication and commitment to learning and helping others.
In addition to being a student, Waltz has also served as a supplemental instructor (SI) in chemistry. As an SI leader, Waltz sat in on classes and modeled good student behavior by taking notes. Waltz also held group study sessions for students and aided students with sample problems.
Waltz will start Johns Hopkins’ 21-month bachelor of science program this fall. Students who are accepted into this program must have 60 prerequisite credits and are interested in a bachelor of science with a major in nursing. Waltz intends to become a nurse practitioner and plans to go into the field of oncology to work with cancer patients.
