Submitted by Leigh-Anne Mauk on Mon, 11/05/2007 - 1:00am
Hagerstown Community College'a Center for Continuing Education will hold a seminar on restraint coding and team building for long term care providers on Tuesday, Nov. 13, beginning at 8 a.m. at the HCC Valley Mall Training Center. The seminar will be taught by Linda Taylor, RN, MSN, who is a nurse surveyor with the Office of Health Care Quality.
The focused session combines two topics, one on restraint coding, the other on team dynamics. Objectives of the course include: defining restraint and describing the federal regulatory requirements for restraint use in long term care; discussing the relevance of the QM/QI reports regarding restraints; explaining the MDS coding guidelines and applying them to clinical scenarios; and summarizing the care process for assessment, usage and documentation of restraints. Team building discussions will include listing the four stages of a team, developing effective strategies for communicating with various personality types, and a team-building activity.
Cost for health professionals is $45. To learn more and to register, call 301-790-2800, ext. 236.
