Dean of Student Affairs #13-034

The Dean of Student Affairs provides leadership and oversight of student services including Admissions, Records and Registration; Financial Aid; Academic Advising; Student Activities; Internship and Job Services; Job Training Student Resources; Disability Support Services; TRiO Student Support Services; Intercollegiate Athletics; Children's Learning Center; Fitness Center; ARCC Facility; Welcome Desk; and the Information Center.

The Dean plays a primary role in planning, reviewing assessment results, managing fiscal resources of Student Affairs units, and organizing professional development programs.  Enrollment management is a major joint focus of Student and Academic Affairs and increasing enrollment through recruitment and retention is a critical goal every year. 

The Dean is responsible for the commencement ceremony and makes collective arrangements for all of the student recognition ceremonies scheduled in May each year.  Also, the Dean is responsible for certifying the eligibility of students to graduate in all degree and certificate programs (30 hours or more). 

The Dean serves on the Governance Council and co-chairs the Student Affairs Governance Committee as well as the Multicultural Committee.  The Dean is directly responsible for student conduct administration and is the referral person for student non-academic complaints.  In short, the Dean serves as a catalyst for and developer of initiatives that are directed toward enhancing student development and success.

Qualifications: 
Education and experience - Masters degree in related field; doctorate strongly preferred; minimum of five (5) years experience in student services supervisory administration; demonstrated advocacy for ethnic, racial, and cultural diversity; strong experience with student recruitment and enrollment management and current knowledge of financial aid, intercollegiate athletics, and FERPA rules and regulations. Experience with the development of budgets, and outcomes assessment plans is also expected. Skills and abilities - A history of excellent interpersonal skills and an established record of effective communication with staff and students in an educational environment; record of being an excellent problem solver; a demonstrated ability in managing and leading a diversified staff having job duties that span many functions; a record of successfully dealing with administrative deadlines, grievance/appeal proceedings and other management duties; a thorough knowledge of computerized student information systems and a commitment to use Internet connections as a vital supplement for the delivery of student services.
