ITA

The ITA was founded in 2005 by a group of students interested in learning more about technology and practicing what they had learned in classes. These students also wanted to give to their community through the use of technology and have fostered such projects as working with the Office on Aging and assisting senior citizens with on-line registration of their Healthcare Providers and pharmacological needs; and providing a computer repair clinic to HCC students and the community at a reasonable cost. For the last 4 years the club has offered a “Computer Scholarship” to a deserving student within the TCS division; one student who meets the qualifications is selected by a committee and then given a new PC to help with their studies.

Club meetings are generally brief and conclude with a Tech Talk—an expert in the topical field gives a short presentation or demonstration on a technology subject. Recent topics have included: password cracking, preventing hacking using NetStat, and imaging drives.

The club usually offers several seminars, workshops and field trips each semester. Some of the most popular events have included: soldering workshops, Fluke seminar, C3 Conference, TechNet events, GovSec and trip to MicroCenter. The club sponsors competitive teams in the fields of cybersecurity and computer forensics.

Information Technology Association

The ITA was founded in 2005 by a group of students interested in learning more about technology and practicing what they had learned in classes. These students also wanted to give to their community through the use of technology and have fostered such projects as working with the Office on Aging and assisting senior citizens with on-line registration of their Healthcare Providers and pharmacological needs; and providing a computer repair clinic to HCC students and the community at a reasonable cost.

Computer Repair Clinic

For the past eight years the Information Technology Association has sponsored a computer repair clinic for students, faculty, and the general public. The clinic is run by IT students who volunteer their time diagnosing and repairing computers. Because many students are financially challenged, the repair rates are very reasonable and generally range from $20 to $70. Should any parts be required, members will send a link to the customer who then purchases the part and upon receipt, brings it in to the clinic to be installed.

CyberHawks

The CyberHawks is a digital sports team that prepares for, and competes in, annual technological competitions. Our primary focus is to learn through hands-on applications in lifelike environments. The competitions we participate in, such as the Mid-Atlantic CCDC, as well as STEM’s virtual Cybersecurity Exercise Suite (CES), provide a blend of both casual and intensive experiences. Members are afforded multiple opportunities to practice a wide range of IST fields, from Network and Cyber security to forensics and ethical hacking.
