(first printed in the 2009 Hedge Apple)
- A pile of white cotton gloves
- in small sizes filled the right-hand corner
- of the dresser we shared.
- They were for Sunday school,
- for Easter sunrise, and Christmas Eve,
- for family photos,
- for weddings and funerals,
- a passport guaranteeing our safe arrival in the future.
- We bleached them,
- repaired the seams,
- and wore them weekly.
- Now where can I buy white gloves?
- Now where can I wear white gloves?
