  • A pile of white cotton gloves
  • in small sizes filled the right-hand corner
  • of the dresser we shared.
  • They were for Sunday school,
  • for Easter sunrise, and Christmas Eve,
  • for family photos,
  • for weddings and funerals,
  • a passport guaranteeing our safe arrival in the future.
  • We bleached them,
  • repaired the seams,
  • and wore them weekly.
