  • They urged, “Take whatever you want.”
  •  
  • But she didn’t, and they thought she didn’t care.
  • Her grandmother’s dishes were so pretty.
  • Didn’t her children value their past?
  •  
  • So she took the quilts, the silverware, and the spinning wheel,
  • and they thought her greedy.
  • They watched for excess and ego.
  •  
  • As a favor to the family, she stored a treasured cabinet in the barn
  • in case someone might want it someday.
  • It was awkward, heavy, and didn’t fit in the van.
  •  
  • She really wanted the mantel clock, but they gave it to her cousin.
