Tuition and Fees

The Price of A Diploma

The price of a diploma goes up every year. So, determining what college will cost you isn’t a case of multiplying the freshman year cost by 4. That would be easy to do, but very misleading. Your junior and senior years may cost several thousand dollars more than the freshman year. Keep that in mind when figuring what you think college expenses will be over the next 4 years. One more thing, many students take 4 - 4 ½ - 5 years to complete college because they switch majors, the classes they need aren’t available, or there is an increase in the number of credit hours required for graduation.

Attend A More Affordable School for the First Two Years

You can reduce costs significantly by attending a community college, like Hagerstown Community College, for two years and then transferring to a four-year institution. Since many, and in some cases all, of the course credits may transfer, with proper planning, students can complete their degrees in virtually the same amount of time while saving significantly on tuition.

If your sights are on that more elite or costly university, financial resources can also be leveraged by attending a less expensive four-year institution for two years and later transferring.
